Got my sample of the gDiapers in the mail today. So I put them through several tests. First and foremost, how easy they are to assemble and put on a test subject (which was a 4 pound bag of sugar). I did this, and then Dan did as well to determine if its something we can do. Test went ok, it was our first time, and a bit awkward for Dan to do, but it will get better with time, not anything that stood out as impossible.
Next we did the dryness test. I learned online that newborns fill a diaper about 45 ml, when it should be changed, and then by the time the little one is about 6 weeks old and their bladder is more mature, that can go up to about 116 ml. So we tested the diapers with 50, 100, and 150 ml of water. And then did the dryness test, by touching the diaper with a paper towel to see if it was wet. The absorbency seems to make the diapers go from wet to dry in about 30 seconds to 0ne minute. And after about a minute or so, all three water volumes, were dry to the touch. Not knowing what disposable diapers are like, I figure thats pretty good, gets the potty away from baby skin and keeps it away!
Next we tested the flushability with our toilet. We flushed all three diapers with just water in them. We did learn that they come out of the dryness sheet part, easier if they are more full. Which can be easily handled with having a cup of water handy to pour on the suckers if they aren’t full diapers at changing time. And finally we flushed some dog poop, along with a full wet diaper to see how a poopy diaper later might do. All four flushes were only one flushers and they all flushed just fine. Dan even flushed one diaper to see if he could do it, and he might end up needing to really wash his hands after wards, but he was able to do it as well.
So the consensus is, gDiapers are a gGO. We are going to use them, I liked their dryness properties and they seemed to be just fine flushing wise, and they aren’t too much of a hassle to “make” and we even figured how to start each day, so that we didn’t have to build to many diapers. Yay!
One thing I wasn’t expecting, is the “little g” pants are actually cotton, they are soft and really CUTE. I thought they would be like the liners inside them, and be that waxy like material that is water proof, but nope. They have inside them a cloth like liner, that is water proof, learned this when some of the water from the dryness test, got in between the snap in liner, and the “little g” pant. Yay for cuteness and dryness!
