Problems of a sleeping nature

Hobbit | 7/18/2005 Mon July 18, 2005 @ 5:24 pm

Ok lets start with the whopper, I have restless legs, have had this since I can remember. For the last year I have taken medicine for it, called Sinemet. The medicine worked like a charm, my legs went from feeling like they had bugs running up and down my bones, to dead weight. IT was wonderful. For the first time in my life I was getting good sleep at night!!! Good Hard sleep, not the light sleep I had been dealing with for YEARS. I also lost my innate ability to take a nap when and where ever I wanted. Which had its ups and downs, but mainly I was happy to be sleeping right at night. Finally 8 hours of sleep meant, 8 hours of sleep, for the longest I just thought we all laid down in bed for 8 hours and maybe got 4 hours of sleep or so if we had a good night. (Part of the reason it took me so long to get diagnosed? I didn’t know anything was wrong! I thought it was NORMAL.)

Anyways my prescription for my leg medicine has since run out, and I could call the doctor in Tennessee and see about getting a new prescription, but its been a year and I don’t know if she will want to see me again, and I am also hoping maybe I can get my new health insurance to pay for it. (and there’s another reason but I haven’t put that reason up here yet, so can’t go into it.) Well its been rough the last few days, I was up one night till 3:30am. Restless legs have a tendency to get worse right about bed time, between 10-12 and then get better closer to 3-4 am. Its weird, but that’s the way this weird dopamine imbalance works.

So after that night I couldn’t take it, so I started searching the net for homeopathic ways to relieve this, or things I could do at home to get myself some sleep. Well I found a few, homeo wise I read calcium has a tendency to help, which made sense to me, as I had been drinking a lot of milk lately, and then slacked off a bit, and the legs started getting icky again. I also read places were people had found that hot baths, leg exercises before bed, and massage help. So I decided I wanted sleep and two nights ago, I tried all of these, took a hot bath, massaged my legs in the bath, drank a glass of cold milk before bed, and did calf exercises. It worked, I only had to wake up in the middle of the night twice to use the restroom, which I have been having to do lately.

Wow, and it was a hard sleep that I got, I was so happy, but then the next morning I had a thought, what had done it? Was it one thing or all things, and being the scientific that I am, figured it should be experimented on to find out, then my sleep meter kicked in and said, SORRY we do not wish to have even one sleepless night anymore. So I decided my nightly routine will consist of doing all of them, the water bill might not like me for the next little bit, but as soon as I get health insurance hopefully that will all change! Did them all again last night, and once again got sleep!

WTF

CNN had an interesting article. In the article, it says Bethany Christian Services, a Christian based adoption agency, refuses to place adoptees with Roman Catholic families, because they say “their [Catholic] religion conflicts with the agency’s “Statement of Faith.”

Ok begin Rant.

For one thing Catholicism, is a denomination of the Christian religion, NOT a separate religion.

For another thing, their statement of faith in no way conficts the Catholic Church’s teachings. Its their own naivety, in thinking that Catholics get forgiveness from the church or the priest, and not directly from Jesus and God, that makes them think their statement conficts what Catholics believe. It really bothers me when people just assume something and don’t research it and find out on their own. If you think Catholics do something, especially something you don’t agree with, why don’t you find one to ask, one to see if that really is what happens, or if someone is spinning a tale.

For another thing, this just seems, totally prejudice on so many levels, Even if a family does not believe in their statement of faith, how does THAT make them bad parents, unsuitable to be good parents??? It just doesn’t make any sense. I just don’t get it, I thought this was a country where we are free to practice our own faiths? Yet, these people are saying “If you have one faith, you won’t make good parents.” It just befumbles me!

Ok end rant

Government crap

So I tried to get a new social security card the other day, got told by the lady that my certificate wasn’t official because it didn’t have a number on it. Which upset me, because all the info I have says that my certificate is a legal document that can be used to get my name changed. Grrr so we went back the next day, armed with an email from the county clerk from Knoxville, (who issued the certificate) and my birth certificate, and the receipt for the certificate, which happens to have a license number on it. Talked to a totally different lady, who was much nicer, and at least wanted to help instead of just saying no right away. So she tried the number on the receipt, it worked, and then I was signing the papers, and oops she spelled Greene wrong, left off the e oops, so I had to get it redone, but now my new social security card is on its way in the mail. So disaster averted.

Ready to get my copy of the sixth Harry Potter… then I will be occupied for, ohhh 3 hours (I am a slow reader, might be 6).

Hope all is well with all.

Happy one month anniversary

Busy weekend

Hobbit | Sun July 10, 2005 @ 8:18 pm

Well my mom and dad came up to Missouri from Arkansas this weekend, to help us with some unpacking and furniture moving and assembly. The place is really starting to look like we live here! We are very grateful to my parents for the help! It was an adventure with all four of us working to get the things done we had on our list, but we did it all! Minus touch up painting which can wait. It was a really good weekend though! But I better go water the new plants before it gets too late!
